Counselling
The term ‘counselling’ is generally understood to be short-term work to address a specific issue. However, I am also trained and experienced in long-term/open-ended client work, and going deeper into your process. When we first meet, we can assess your needs and decide together which approach is most suitable for you.
Counselling is not a case of ‘getting advice’ or hearing someone’s opinion. As an objective presence, I offer a non-judgemental, confidential space for you to talk about your experience. I will listen, guide, and help you to find greater understanding of yourself. I will not give you all the answers – rather, I will work with you to help you to find them yourself.
My approach
I trained at the Re-Vision Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy. The training I undertook allows me to draw on a wide range of approaches in my work, including Jungian, Gestalt, relational, psychodynamic, neuroscience, body psychotherapy and family systems theory, as well as developmental and archetypal psychology, and ecopsychology. This means that I can adapt my approach to your individual needs as they evolve.
I believe that healing is about the body as much as the mind, and about finding a sense of meaning or connection. I may incorporate creative and experiential approaches in our work where appropriate, to help you access parts of your experience that words alone may not reach. For instance, using image and imagination, dreams, drawing and movement, to bring fresh insight and new ways of moving forward.
How I work
I have extensive experience working with clients in person and remotely. I received training and have been formally assessed in online counselling. Currently, I choose to work remotely in my private practice. This means I can offer you flexibility, and reassurance that our work can continue together should either of our locations or circumstances change.
What to expect
No counselling experience is the same, and everyone’s journey will be different. While neither of us may know where your journey will take us, I commit to offering a consistent space for you to talk about whatever you need at any given time, and work together in a way that is best for you.
Getting started
The first step is to get in touch via the contact form or email. I offer an initial 25-minute session at a reduced rate, where I can learn more about you and your needs, and you can ensure you feel comfortable working with me. If we decide to work together, we will arrange a regular time to meet online each week for a 50-minute session.
